The Town of Moorefield enacted a new ordinance, Chapter 23, in November 2023.  The ordinance went into effect on March 11, 2024.  This ordinance requires inspections of residential rental dwelling units once every three (3) years. The inspection process is as follows:

Step 1:  Complete the registration form listing each rental property that you own within the Town of Moorefield. This step will only be done once as long as you own the property.

Step 2:  Fill out an application for the Certificate of Occupancy and pay your fee. This step will be done every 3 years; however, most of the information will carry over from the previous term.

Step 3:  Schedule the inspection with a Town Code Enforcement officer or a Third Party Inspector.

Step 4:  Inspection day

Step 5:  Receive a report with the inspection results.

Step 6:  Obtain your Certificate of Occupancy from the Town, which is valid for 3 years.

The Town will help you through every step of the process.  At this time, we are only doing Step #1, registration of rental properties.  Please do not submit any payment yet.  Please click on the Rental Registration Form to begin the process.  The form can be signed and submitted electronically.  Thank you!
